2K Hires Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a more defined vision.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to better meet community desires.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”

Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to mind and reimagined the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After several months of talks, he officially joins us on next week.

His management and experience in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having spent the recent years creating and managing some of the most popular titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to persist seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

The President

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description explains. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and trust your group can secure victory? The choice is yours."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official launch window or supported systems, but fans can expect further news as development continues.
